Brexit Between UK & Europe 2020

Brexit refers to the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. The main reason for this was related to the economy. In January 2020, the British Parliament passed the Withdrawal Agreement, which had a transition period until December 31, 2020, during which time the UK remained in both the EU and the single market.

During the transition period, British citizens still had the same rights as before, including visa-free travel to and from the EU and the right to live and work in both the UK and the EU. However, after December 31, 2020, British citizens who wanted to move to the EU would have to follow that country’s immigration rules.

If you hold a UK passport and wanted to invite your non-European family to reside in Portugal, it’s recommended to apply for a registration certificate before the transition period ended. If you and your non-European family register in Portugal before December 31, 2020, your residence rights would remain the same as per the European treaty.

Brexit will impact the global economy, including currency values. International students should be aware of the UK visa rules after December 31, 2020. Changes may be made to UK immigration rules after Brexit. It’s recommended to bring close family members before Brexit. The effect on the UK job market depends on the global economy and employer policies.
