Temporary Residence Permit in Portugal

The Temporary Residency Permit (TRC) in Portugal is a card that allows non-citizens to live in Portugal temporarily.

The specific type of TRC can vary depending on the purpose of the stay in Portugal, such as employment, self-employment, study, family reunification, teaching profession, highly qualified profession, cultural promotion, tech visa program, European company worker, ICT and transferred worker, or mobility worker in Europe.

A TRC is initially issued for 2 years for non-EU citizens but can be extended to 5 years for those with a long-term residency card from any EU country.

Portugal also offers permanent residency (PR) and citizenship to those who have lived in the country legally for 5 years.

The required documents for a TRC depend on the specific type of TRC applied for. The Golden Visa is a type of long-term residency that is granted in exchange for an investment.
